Over the last few years Facebook and other Social Media have turned from a place to post pictures and status updates to a useful tool for discovering information, meeting people and gaining advice (especially when searching for an English teaching job in Colombia).

Finding an English teaching job in Colombia can, for some people, seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be; Social Media can be a useful tool to gain advice from others who have worked within the country as they have knowledge about working and living in Colombia as well as information about English teaching jobs in the country.

Here are five ways Social Media can become a useful tool when searching for advice and meeting other people while looking for an English teaching job in Colombia.

1) Practical Real Life Experiences

Social Media is a good tool to use to meet people and discover their experiences of working in an English teaching job in Colombia. Facebook groups such as English Teachers in Colombia and English Teachers in Bogota can be a useful place to post any questions or queries you may have and meet others who have gone through the same experience. When searching for an English teaching job in Colombia it’s important and reassuring to hear about the experiences others have had of living in the country and working for different companies.

2) Meeting People

Commenting and posting on Facebook groups or pages can give you the opportunity to meet and interact with other people not only to gain advice but to make friendships. Facebook is a good way to meet people who are maybe still working, living and maybe even teaching English in Colombia. You may keep in contact with some of these people when you move to the country and then meet up with them (this is a great way to make friends and meet new people).

3) Finding Accommodation

Facebook is a very useful tool to use when searching for accommodation in Colombia. When you have an English teaching job in Colombia you will need to find somewhere to stay and live and there are a large number of different options available to you as seen in this earlier post. Facebook is a good way to find a room or apartment to rent as there are a large number of Facebook groups such as Bogota Short Term Rentals  in which people post if they have a spare room available or if they are trying to let an apartment.

4) Finding Information

Facebook and LinkedIn are great places to find employees of certain companies you maybe researching or applying to. This is a great way to get in contact with people who work for the companies, or have previously worked for the companies, and gain insights into what it’s like to work for that specific company.

5) Researching Companies

When searching for an English teaching job in Colombia it is useful to find out as much information as possible about the company. When gaining an English teaching job in Colombia it is important to know exactly who you are working for, so a simple search through Social Media channels will give you information not only about the company itself but also what it’s like to work for them.

Social media channels are constantly changing, but as of 2022, the channels that are the most popular for research include Facebook, Reddit, and even Quora.
